Milagro welcomes Loreto 5th graders to the first field trip at the Garden

On Monday, December, 14th Milagro Allegro welcomed twenty-four 5th graders from Loreto Elementary School in Cypress Park for our first field trip to the Garden.

It was quite a lively morning with several different garden workshops offered to the kids and plentiful with many fun and educational activities. The children identified different types of leaves, sketched something of their choice in the garden and participated in a garden “treasure hunt”.

We constructed kid’s size garden plots, mixed soil and filled the plots. Kids learned how to make compost from kitchen scraps, garden clippings, paper and other ingredients. We had a seed germination exercise and kids made their own seed cups in which they later planted their seeds.
