Milagro Allegro one of 50 organizations honored at Kaiser Permanente’s “Celebration of Healthy Partnerships”
Milagro Allegro was one of about 50 other non-profit organizations honored at Kaiser Permanente’s inagural “Celebration of Healthy Partnerships” held on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park featuring this year’s Local Community Benefit grantees. Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, and Councilman Tom LaBonge were among the elected officials present. Milagro Allegro will be using the Kaiser Permanente grant to partially fund our afterschool program called “Urban Sprouts” that we’re developing and will be piloting in January 2010 at the garden, and that involves the partnership between USC’s Childhood Obesity Research Center, the UC Extension Master Gardener program, LAUSD and LA’s Best. Art Center College of Design will be designing and constructing a mobile kitchen island. About 50 4th and 5th graders from Loreto Elementary will come to the garden twice a week for 12 weeks to learn cooking, nutrition and gardening.
